“Do you think this is funny, Kili?”
Kili stifled his laughter with his hand as he watched Thorin continue to fiddle with the phone in his hands. No matter what he tried, Thorin’s fingers just weren’t nimble enough to press the correct buttons on the shiny screen of the smartphone.
“This is impossible!” Thorin said to himself. He tried only using his pointer finger to operate the device. “What is the purpose even of this confounding device?”
“It’s for communicating across long distances, Uncle,” Fili replied helpfully. “You can even play this entertaining little game called…what was it called, brother?”
“Angry Birds!” Kili said excitedly.
“Angry Birds,” Fili repeated as Thorin continued to become more and more frustrated.
“Curse this blasted communication device! I do not need this foolishness,” Thorin threw the phone onto the table between his nephews. “You can keep it. And tell Gandalf not to give me any more gifts from wherever it is he’s gone to!”
Fili and Kili laughed and scrabbled for a turn with the phone as Thorin angrily strode out the door.
